We’re Moving!
Elevate the Conversation has come to an end, but we hope to continue the discussion with you over on The Wall Street Journal.
Welcome to our last weekly chat about the environmental and social issues that influence the way we work, spend our money and live our lives. For the final time, we're your hosts, Maitane Sardon and Dieter Holger.
Hi Maitane! After a year, this will be our last conversation here on Substack. And what a year it has been! We’ve covered many environmental and social topics affecting our daily lives. What were some of the most important for you?
Well, a lot of our discussions were about an issue on everyone’s mind: the coronavirus pandemic. We talked about hero pay for frontline workers during lockdowns, small-business closures, changing views on university education and how companies are reassessing office-based work models.
That’s right, and we also saw that the virus disproportionately affected people of color in the U.S. Racial justice was another big topic this past year. We spoke about the Black Lives Matter movement and the impact it had on companies, with many pledging to increase diversity.
Speaking of companies, one of the things we’ve noticed is that corporations around the world are facing more and more pressure from all kinds of stakeholders--including people like you, our readers--to become more sustainable.
Absolutely! Environmental reporting, including on emissions and climate-change risks, has increased dramatically across all industries and companies are preparing for more regulatory scrutiny on their sustainable practices, especially in the European Union.
That is one of the reasons we are launching a new Wall Street Journal newsletter called WSJ Pro Sustainable Business in June. It will be a weekly look at sustainability, governance and social responsibility issues and strategies for corporate decision makers. Can you tell us more about it, Dieter?
Yes, this newsletter will be totally free and will look at all the issues corporate sustainability professionals are thinking about. This could include things like personnel changes, sustainability reporting frameworks and best practices for companies.
I’m very excited about this new project, and I think it will be a useful resource in what can sometimes be a confusing subject.
Me too! We hope that you have enjoyed our weekly chat and that you will continue supporting us by signing up for our new newsletter here: WSJ Pro Sustainable Business https://www.wsj.com/newsletters?sub=449
Thank you for supporting us this past year and we hope to see you soon!
